Rockville Equestrian Center
2010 Summer Day Camp Dates are Here!
During the summer of 2010 Rockville Equestrian Center will offer six day-camps & clinics to accommodate the interests and skill levels of students of all ages. Since safety is Rockville Equestrian Center’s primary concern, each camp/clinic will be limited to six students. Steve Orr will teach all sessions of camp this summer.
Novice-level Riding Camp - $300
Monday thru Wednesday, August 9-11, 9-3
This camp will offer beginning level students a variety of activities. Students will receive basic equine education including: horse anatomy, basic veterinary care, nutritional requirements, grooming and bathing, tack terms and care, and equine terminology. Daily riding lessons will teach and refine fundamental riding techniques including proper mounting, walking and trotting, two-point versus three-point positions, stopping and turning and posting to a trot. This camp is for new and/or nearly new riders ages 8 and up.
Students will conclude the week with a “demonstration of skills” learned. Parents, guardians, and siblings are invited to attend this demonstration. Campers should bring a lunch and a refillable water bottle. We will provide water and Gatorade throughout the day.
Beginner Show Camp - $400
Monday - Wednesday, June 28 – June 30, 9-3
This three-day beginner show camp is designed for students who have progressed beyond the novice level and who are interested in a challenge and would like a taste of the competition. The program will work intensively on developing rider skills on the flat and over fences in preparation for an off property schooling show on Wednesday, June 30th in the evening. This camp is geared towards riders looking for a complete horse show experience and the fee includes training, schooling, and grooming fees at the show, along with the transportation and horse lease fee. Show division entry fees are not included in the camp fee, as they vary per division entered and can be paid directly to Coventry Farm (approx. ~$45) the night of the show. Campers should bring a lunch and a refillable water bottle. We will provide water and Gatorade throughout the day.
Intermediate Show Camp - $300
Wednesday - Friday, July 28-30 or August 18-20, 9-3
The focus of the intermediate camps will be on teaching students total care for their horse, and on further developing skills in preparation for participation in a horse show on the Saturday immediately following camp. A CHSA horse show is scheduled on Saturday, July 31st and on Saturday, August 21st at Deep Run Show grounds and campers are encouraged to participate in the show. The camp fee includes transportation for horse and rider to the Deep Run Show grounds for schooling on Friday afternoon and the schooling fee at the show grounds. Session availability for this camp depends on student’s riding ability and available horse power if students do not own their own horses. Campers should bring a lunch and a refillable water bottle. We will provide water and Gatorade throughout the day.
